Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Opening Scene
The music in the start of the scene is mysterious. This makes the audience feel that something secret is about to happen, making them excited about the film as they want to know what is going to happen. The first shot in the scene is a medium shot of an owl sitting on a street name. This makes the audience think that there is some sort of magic involved in the film as owls are commonly associated with wizards. Another factor that makes the audience think that the film is about magic is that one of the characters flies in on a motobike. Motorbikes, needless to say don't normally fly, so this makes the audience think that magic is involved. The main character in the scene is dressed like a wizard. He is dressed in long robes with long grey hair and beard. He is also wearing a long pointy hat. this tells the audience that this character is a wizard. This notion is reinforced by the way that he mysteriously appears out of the strange fog. A second character transforms from a cat into a person. This is enough evidence for the audience to know that the film is about wizards and magic, as people don't shapeshift in reality.
