Hunt for red October opening scene analysis

Soviet uniforms
The opening scene tells us that the film is about a soviet submarine. We learn this through the costume of the characters and the fact that they are standing on a submarine's conning tower as it sails to sea. The two characters on screen are wearing soviet naval officer's uniform, this tells us that they are soviet commanders. Another way that we can tell that they are soviets is through the way that they are speaking russian. The diegetic sound works with the camera shots to tell us that the scene is set in Russia. The diegetic sound of the wind can constantly be heard. It is a cold sounding wind, so this works with the establishing shot of the snowy landscape and the aforementioned soviet uniforms to tell us that the scene is set off of the cost of soviet Russia. The editing of the scene is always very slow. They rarely change the camera shot befor 5 seconds has passed since the last change. The let the large black conning tower move in front of the shot before they the title swoops in from the side, like is is on the conning tower itself. The titles start with the name 'Red October in russian before it is translated in to english. The fact that it is swooped in over the top of the conning tower tells the audience that this submarine is the 'Red October' in question.
